Who We are
Bajo el Ceibo was founded on a simple idea: gratitude deserves expression.
Founded in 2026 and recently incorporated in Vermont, Bajo el Ceibo is currently pursuing recognition as a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Many people from the United States and around the world have found friendship, opportunity, and a sense of belonging in Uruguay. Some come for a season, others for a lifetime. Whatever their journey, many share a deep appreciation for the country and its people.
Bajo el Ceibo was created to transform that appreciation into action. Through charitable giving and community partnerships, we support organizations that are improving lives throughout Uruguay. Our goal is not only to provide financial assistance, but also to strengthen the bonds between those who have been welcomed by Uruguay and the communities that make the country so special.
The ceibo, Uruguay’s national flower, symbolizes resilience, connection, and shared growth. Like the tree that gives our organization its name, we hope to create a place where gratitude can take root and flourish.
MEET THE TEAM
Harry shulman
Harry Shulman is a retired attorney and longtime advocate for immigrant communities. After visiting and attending classes in Montevideo to study Spanish, he developed a deep appreciation for Uruguay and its people. Together with Carter Ruml and Agustín Pereira Campomar, he co-founded Bajo el Ceibo to help expatriates and friends of Uruguay express their gratitude through charitable giving and support for local community organizations.
C. Carter Ruml
Carter Ruml has spent his career helping individuals and families align their financial resources with their values. He brings extensive experience in philanthropy, charitable planning, and nonprofit governance.
After spending time in Uruguay, Carter came to appreciate the country’s strong sense of community, democratic traditions, and welcoming culture. As a co-founder of Bajo el Ceibo, he is committed to helping build a sustainable organization that channels gratitude into meaningful support for Uruguayan charitable initiatives.
Agustín Pereira Campomar is a Uruguayan attorney and advisor with a deep understanding of the country’s legal, civic, and charitable landscape. His knowledge of Uruguay’s nonprofit sector and commitment to community service provides an important local perspective for the organization.
As a co-founder of Bajo el Ceibo, Agustín helps connect the organization with charitable partners throughout Uruguay and helps ensure that its work remains rooted in the needs and priorities of local communities.
